The Inuit Youth Futures Art-Based Suicide Intervention Program: Reconnecting with Life Through Individual and Community Development

Résumé

Inuit Youth Futures (IYF) conducts a formative evaluation of a co-developed, culturally grounded, arts-based secondary and tertiary suicide prevention program supporting Inuit youth experiencing suicidality to re-engage with life, cope, and project themselves into the future. Delivered through a consistent, low-threshold Art Studio alongside Elders, Inuit artists, and mentors, IYF is life-affirming by design, building coping, agency, and connection through artmaking rather than clinical intervention. Using Most Significant Change methodology, qualitative implementation assessment, and prospective monitoring of suicidality and its drivers, we will develop a robust, participant-centred account of what works, for whom, and under what conditions. This project promises to move research into action—producing the first systematic evidence base for a culturally grounded, arts-based suicide prevention program with Inuit youth.
